Located in Yamhill County and 40 miles southwest of Portland is the McMinnville, OR area. This tourist destination is home to over 1,144 vineyards that are part of the Willamette Valley AVA and provide their bounty to over 250 wineries in the area. In the mid-1800s McMinnville was a small farming community known for turkey farms, but today it is known for its fine dining, boutique shopping and plenty of award-winning wines. The wine industry in the Willamette Region has had a huge impact on Oregon’s state wide economy with over $780 million dollars in wine-related tourism contributed to Oregon in 2016. Because of this growth, the local wine industry has created an increased demand for hotels, shopping, gas stations and restaurants, all of which pay into the state tax system. As the Oregon economy continues to grow, the vines will continue to provide for the incoming tourists that venture to McMinnville and the surrounding areas of Oregon. Cheers!
